Hello! I’m Katie Doucette. I was born and raised in Saugatuck, Michigan, where I currently live with my husband and two children. I created Polka Dot Mitten in January of 2013, after having two successful years of selling my little handmade signs in the shop that I own with my mom, It Is What It Is, in Douglas, MI.
We make all of our signs in our home. My husband cuts all of the wood in our garage, and I design all the artwork and make the signs right at our kitchen counter! Most days, our house feels kind of like a factory. But it’s so rewarding to see all of our signs in little shops! I love to see pictures of how they’re displayed and where they end up! Always feel free to send me a picture!
Two years ago, my family’s dear friend, Sue Ross, kindly offered to sell my little signs to the gift shops she sold to all over Michigan. She worked so hard to grow this little business! She introduced me to my other rep, Kym, in the summer of 2013. The two of them really got Polka Dot Mitten up and running! Sadly, Sue passed away unexpectedly in January of 2014 – she will be greatly missed by so many people. A portion of the proceeds from our signs will be donated to the Wes Leonard Heart Team in Sue’s honor.
