From the Heart

My youngest brother, Kyle, is graduating from Butler University next weekend. He was born with a heart condition called Tetralogy of Fallot. In 2013, he was rushed to the hospital in Indianapolis with ventricular tachycardia. Paramedics used an AED to save his life in the ambulance. This is the reason why we donate a percentage […]

We Draw the Year Challenge

Hi Illustrator friends! I am starting a project on Instagram on January 1st called ‪#‎wedrawtheyear‬. I would love it if any of you would like to join the project! There will be 4 prompts to illustrate per month. I would love to share a few of your illustrations on my page each week! We will use […]

Stephanie Corfee :: Paint Lab for Kids

I am excited to announce that a piece of my artwork is published in a book called “Paint Lab for Kids”  by my friend Stephanie Corfee! I “met” Stephanie while taking an online course called Make Art that Sells by Lilla Rogers.  Over the past two years, a group of girls from the class and […]

New Products for the Holidays

Now that the craziness of summer has passed, and my kids are back in school for the long haul, I had the urge to try out some new products on the heat press. I am so excited about how they turned out! I will be adding them to my Etsy shop gradually over the next […]

Home Tour!

Recently, my friend Brooke DeBoer, of Brooke DeBoer Interiors, visited my home to help me make our living room and front room more functional. She showed me how to arrange my existing furniture to make the room feel bigger. Then we “shopped” for accessories from other areas of the house to bring in to compliment the […]

Mackinac Trunk Show!

We’re heading north again for another trunk show! This time we will be at Little Luxuries of Mackinac Island on Wednesday from 1-4 pm. It’s going to be a fun afternoon!

We’re Going Up North!

Next week, we are planning on taking a road trip up north.  We’ll stop at many of the sweet little shops that carry Polka Dot Mitten goodies along the way. We’ll be staying in Traverse City, but I have a trunk show at Two Fish Gallery in Leland  on Friday the 17th from 1-4pm. I can’t […]

Friendship

“Surround yourself with people who get it. Make time for the people who get it. Try to be the person who ‘gets it’ for someone else, but don’t chase people. Work hard and be yourself, and the right people will make an effort to be in your life. A friend is someone who listens and […]

My New Studio

Our very first goal when we started Polka Dot Mitten in 2013 was to outgrow our kitchen counter.  My first rep, Sue, used to tell that to every store that bought our products.  She’d send me bunches of orders, and always say, “You’re young!  You don’t need sleep!”  And ever since then, our kitchen has […]

Love Lives Here

I created this piece for the art class I am taking.  I love making wall art!!  But how cool would this one be on a round cutting board or lazy susan?  Coasters?   I’m going to make some.  😀

It’s Been Awhile!

Happy New Year!  I have been extremely busy.  I thought I’d be kicking back, enjoying the slow winter with not much to do.  Not so.  And I’m good with that!  I have created a TON of new artwork in the last 6 weeks.  I came out with a spring catalog, and I’ve had plenty of […]

Love you to London and Back

I’ve been having SO much fun creating new artwork for the new year.  Here’s a new customize-able print that is currently available in my etsy shop, and will also be available in gift shops around Michigan in 2015.  It can be customized to any city, state, or country!

New Product Experiments!

I have been experimenting with some new products for 2015!  I made some sandstone coasters and a glass cutting board with my artwork!  I listed some of it in my Etsy shop, and if it keeps going well, it will be available in the Spring 2015 Polka Dot Mitten catalog.  Check it out!

HELLO.

profile-pic1-300x300.jpg
Thanks for dropping by! I'm Katie Doucette, and I am from the small, waterfront town of Saugatuck, Michigan. I took art classes throughout school and have always had a passion to create things. I spent many hours as a child creating holiday art for the front porch windows, making funny cartoon characters, and designing greeting cards for friends and family. My mom and I opened a handmade gift shop in 2011, and that is when I made the decision to make a career out of my artwork. I work from my studio at my home in Saugatuck, where I live with my husband and two children.
